When Sophia texted me about doing engagement photos for her and Dylan, I just about squealed. I already knew she was amazing, so I knew right off the bat that this session was going to be something special. And spoiler alert: it totally was.
Sophia and Dylan are the kind of couple that make my job way too fun. They’re easygoing, up for anything, and completely trusted the process—even when I pulled out some of my goofier prompts that can feel a little ridiculous in the moment. (Like… whispering your favorite breakfast food in your sexiest voice? Trust me, the photos are gold.) Every time I showed them the back of the camera, they were obsessed, and it just hyped the energy up even more.
We met up at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, which is hands-down one of my favorite spots for engagement sessions in Colorado. It’s got everything—wide open fields, tree-lined trails, and of course, those epic Flatiron views. The light there during golden hour is actual magic. You don’t even have to hike far or do anything fancy to get those Pinterest-worthy shots; everything you need is right there, within a few minutes of walking.
We started in the open field with the Flatirons showing off in the background, and I gave them a few simple prompts to get them moving and laughing. Honestly, they made it easy. You can just see how much fun they have together—every smile, every glance, it’s all so natural. Dylan was such a good sport, even when I made them do the “run at each other like you’re in a cheesy romantic movie” prompt (it’s a classic for a reason, okay?!). And Sophia, of course, looked absolutely stunning.
As the sun started to dip behind the mountains, we wandered a little further into the park and found some quieter spots among the wild flowers and tall grass. The light was perfect—all soft and glowy, like something out of a dream. It gave us the chance to slow down a bit and capture some of those more intimate, snuggly moments. That’s one of the best things about Chautauqua—you get a mix of epic mountain views and cozy little corners, all within a few minutes of each other.
For anyone thinking about doing your engagement photos at Chautauqua, here’s a quick little rundown of what to know:
This session with Sophia and Dylan was one of those that just fills your creative cup. It had everything—light that made the whole park glow, a couple who fully embraced the moment, and a location that delivers every single time. I left that evening with a full memory card and an even fuller heart. There’s just something about photographing people you know and love in a place that’s so naturally beautiful—it adds a whole extra layer of connection to every image.
If you’re thinking about doing your engagement session at Chautauqua Park, I honestly can’t recommend it enough. It’s stunning without trying too hard, has a mix of landscapes to play with, and creates the kind of relaxed, natural atmosphere that makes real moments happen. Whether you’re planning something laid-back or a little more styled, this spot is the ultimate Colorado backdrop. So bring your person, your comfiest twirl-worthy outfit, and let’s make some magic together. And hey—don’t worry if you’re nervous or think you’re “awkward” in front of the camera. I’ve got prompts, jokes, and tricks up my sleeve—and you might just end up loving the goofy stuff the most.
